PhishSim Glossary of Terms

PhishSim is Infosec’s simulated phishing training and simulation tool that provides realistic phishing tests and follow-up training to learners within your organization. You can use pre-built Infosec IQ templates to create and launch a PhishSim Campaign in just a few steps, or you can create your own custom templates and campaigns. Here are some of the most common terms you’ll find used relative to PhishSim Campaigns.

Term Definition
Learner Learners are users added to the Infosec IQ platform to recieve PhishSim or AwareEd training. See Managing Learners for more information.
Email Template Simulated phishing templates that can be sent to learners. Templates determine the email content, the sender and sending domain, and more. Email templates are organized into categories such as banking and file sharing. See PhishSim Email Templates for more information.
Battery A battery is a collection of email templates. See PhishSim Batteries for more information.
Data Entry Template Data entry templates are webpages with a form enticing learners to enter sensitive data such as passwords or credit card numbers. Data entry templates are used in conjunction with an email template to direct learners to the form after clicking a link in an email. See Data Entry Templates for more information.
Education An education is in-the-moment training learners receive after clicking email links or entering data into a data entry page. Educations can be static images, videos, or learners can be directed to an external URL. See PhishSim Education for more information.
Campaigns A PhishSim campaign is used to deliver simulated phishing emails to learners. Learners are enrolled in a campaign, which sends email templates to each learner until the campaign end date. See PhishSim Campaign for more information.
PhishNotify PhishNotify is Infosec’s add-on for Outlook or Gmail that allows learners to report suspicious emails. When a learner reports a PhishSim email they will receive a congratulatory message. Admins can review any suspicious emails in the quarantine. See PhishNotify Plugin and Quarantine for more information.
PhishHunter PhishHunter provides an enhanced view of reported emails along with an automated analysis against a database of known threats. See PhishNotify Plugin and Quarantine for more information.
Phish Rate Phish rate is calculated as the percentage of unique learners that have interacted with a PhishSim email - by either clicking a link or replying - of all unique learners who have received an email in a campaign. Phish rate can also be calculated over time, in which case it is also based on unique learners.
Baseline A baseline campaign is typically used to determine a starting phish rate and help set goals for your security awareness training program. Baseline campaigns are usually blind (see below.) See Baseline PhishSim Campaign for more information.
Blind Campaign A blind campaign is one where the learner receives no in-the-moment training or followup email after interacting with a PhishSim message. If a learner clicks a link, they will see a generic “not found” message. Typically a baseline campaign will also be a blind campaign, but any campaign can be configured as blind.
